This Closing of the Bones Ceremony & Ritual is offered from the Mexican Traditional Perspective. This beautiful practice was passed down to me from my teacher, and friend, the amazing partera & Mexican Midwife Alejandra Lozano, and passed down to her from her partera teachers in the rural communities of Mexico. The full postpartum closing ritual to create the intention of nourishing and closing the body, mind and spirit after the necessary opening for pregnancy and birth, helping to reinforce the body and close from the vulnerability needed at that time, including a Sobada (intentional massage and relaxation of the entire body), herbal bath (optional, and only done at home) to cleanse the body, and physical closing at the major joints of the body with the traditional rebozo birthing scarves. This ritual usually takes about 2-3 hours (depending on if you would like the herbal bath), and is most comfortably done at home after the first 20 days after birth. Many postpartum moms opt for the Mayan-centered Rebozo Closing Ritual which focuses on using the Rebozo as the main component of this supportive ritual and ceremony. This offering is available both in home and also within the healing space at my Woodcliff Lake, NJ office. Generally, this ritual lasts about 45 minutes to 1 hour. This can be done starting at 20 days postpartum as well. The Closing Ritual is a beautiful and transformative practice, that I find it can really help women who are ready to close out other chapters of their lives besides birth, such as during menopause or closing your energy to a toxic relationship, familial patterns or anything else that you want support releasing and reaffirming/recalling/re-embodying your full power within your body.
